1. I believe death symbolizes what the people in this time would be feeling. If they had to pick a narrator to tell their story death would be it. When you think of war and fighting many of you would think of death. Death can flash forward to what will happen. Look back and bring a totally new perspective most people haven't read from.
War=Death that is the symbolism.
Death sees people at their best and worst. Ugliness and Beauty. He says he is haunted. I can understand that. Though I don't think death would admit it, he wants to be human. In all our ugliness and worsts and hatred, we are beautiful becomes we live. Ugliness is beautiful since it's part of life. Every part of life is beautiful. To witness it and never be a part of it must be horrible. I pity this books narrator. Ugliness and beaut is the same thing because unlike death, are contrasts and imbalances are what make living beautiful. Our contrast and shades ARE LIFE. Every human has lived at one point or will live at one point. Being a human means you are many things you cannot be just beautifully you cannot be just ugly. To qualify as a human you have many different colors.
2. It's ironic that Liesel steals books because, life is one infinitive never ending story. There will never be enough tree's in the world to make paper for it's pages. Our lives are OUR stories, to steal and read another because you love adventure, or want an escape from the world your living in is ironic because you don't have to steal one. Your living it.
